Abstract

This study examines the textual-lexical layer of the Apostle contained in Hval’s Miscellany (1404), with a particular emphasis on the relationship between the Bosnian Hval manuscript and the Macedonian Slepche Apostle, as well as on the distribution of the lexical variants rěsn- : istin- (gr. ἀλήθεια, among others). The analysis confirms a close textual affiliation between Hval and Slepche, further supported by the alignment of other Bosnian manuscripts with these solutions, which points to a common (proximate) Vorlage or to a very close branching within the South Slavic Apostolos tradition. The systematic dominance of the Moravianism rěsn- in Hval (and, in most instances, in Slepche) is particularly indicative, in contrast to the more stable presence of istin- in Giljf 14 and the Mlet manuscript in the Epistles. In the Acts of the Apostles, however, a consistent use of the variant istin- is attested in both Hval and Slepche, suggesting a layered prototext and/or the conflation of different exemplars within distinct sections of the codex.
