This paper focuses on the analysis of the reconstructed libretto for the film Miss and the Hooligan (1918) by Vladimir Mayakovsky, published within the collected works of the author. It examines the ways in which traces of cinematic organization can be identified, connected to the avant-garde poetics within the broader context of Mayakovsky’s oeuvre and the Russian avant-garde. Drawing on the poetics of the Russian avant-garde and early cinematography, the paper considers the relationship between textual record, film realization, and visual logic preserved in the libretto as a trace of montage and rhythmic structuring. Particular attention is devoted to the figure of the hooligan as an avant-garde subject whose position is constituted through gesture, space, and conflict, as well as to the ways in which visual and rhythmic elements participate in shaping the tragic experience. The aim of the paper is to demonstrate how elements of film language and Mayakovsky’s poetics intertwine within the libretto, opening a space for an intermedial reading between poetry and film.
