Abstract

Zavidovići are an unconnected, loose mosaic, disintegrated on all of its cross-sections, thus the central state apparatus had no difficulty in controlling the amorphous and heterogeneous mass of its economically impoverished inhabitants, who were devoid of any tradition, constrained by various and varying political pressures, with a parochial social life and alienated along all of their contours. Within this framework, the minority Serb political body, socially heterogeneous, but still representing a nationally unified community, did not question the relation between that what is national and what is civic, choosing the first identity – the national one, which was more stable, functional and in the end proved to be more profitable in Zavidovići during the time of the Yugoslav Kingdom.
